Dear students,
Thanksgiving break is nearly here. Historically we know this can be an especially challenging time for some students. Anxiety about the holidays, academic stress, and seasonal illnesses can all peak. Please remember you have tools and resources to support your well-being.
Physical health
- Get your flu and COVID-19 vaccines. It is not too late. Make an appointment at UHS now.
- If you feel sick, seek care and testing at UHS, especially before you travel. Some services can now be self-scheduled through the patient portal.
- Call UHS at (734) 764-8320 any time of day or night for nurse advice, even when you are away from campus.
- Keep masks and COVID-19 rapid antigen tests handy. Your household can still order free rapid tests from covid.gov/tests.
Mental and emotional health
- Take advantage of your six free CAPS Uwill teletherapy sessions. You can access Uwill therapists even when you are out of the state of Michigan or out of the U.S. Appointments can be the same day or after hours.
- Before or after break, meet with a CAPS counselor, including the counselor on duty 10am-4:30pm, Monday-Friday or the CAPS counselor in your specific school or college.
- If you are experiencing a mental health crisis away from campus and don’t know what to do, call the national suicide and crisis lifeline at 988.
- If you are near campus, U-M Psychiatric Emergency Services (PES) is open 24/7/365 (734-936-5900).
- Keep UHS in mind too: the majority of primary care visits at UHS are for mental health concerns.
Additional resources
- CAPS peer support groups and CAPS Togetherall peer support tool
