Dear U-M Student,

We are pleased to share that so far 76 percent of University of Michigan students planning to attend classes on the Ann Arbor campus this fall have now reported and are confirmed to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19. That’s nearly 35,075 students confirmed as fully vaccinated!

This is an important and positive milestone as vaccination of our entire community is the best way to ensure a healthy and vibrant campus experience in the fall. We thank each and every one of you for your effort.

Our best estimate is that there may be another 10,000 students who have not yet submitted their status. We’d like to remind those who have not yet self-reported their vaccination status to the university, that it is our expectation that you do so as soon as possible. It is essential that we hear from everyone in order to both understand the overall vaccination rate and to complete the necessary plans to provide access to weekly testing for those students who choose not to share vaccine information.

Our team of public health officials will continue to monitor the COVID activity on and around campus, watch the emergence of new and more contagious variants, including the Delta variant, and review guidance from other public health experts including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

We know that we must remain vigilant in our prevention efforts, but the single most important strategy is vaccination.

We are currently evaluating the student self-report vaccination rate along with other metrics established by the Campus Health Response Committee for adjusting COVID-19 mitigation strategies for fall. This includes continuing to monitor the spread of COVID-19 in the local and regional communities in order to make a decision regarding fall masking requirements in classes by July 31 as outlined in the Vaccine Metrics Guidance.

Please visit the Campus Blueprint website for FAQs and the latest information. Thank you for your continued effort to keep yourself and the broader U-M community as safe as possible. We are looking forward to having you back on campus in the fall!

Sincerely,

Preeti Malani
