Continued improvement in case numbers
With continued decreases, COVID-19 cases have returned to levels more consistent with case counts seen earlier in the fall term before the surge caused by the omicron variant. U-M’s wastewater surveillance also shows a pattern of decreasing activity in Ann Arbor, Ypsilanti and in areas on and around campus. While these trends are encouraging, the current community COVID-19 activity is still “High” according to the CDC Transmission criteria. The only Campus Response Metric currently being met is a high level of transmission of COVID-19 in Washtenaw County.
Indoor masking remains in effect
U-M’s face covering requirement remains in effect at this time. Campus leaders are continuing to evaluate and monitor conditions. With spring break approaching and the anticipated travel of our campus community, there are no plans to change our COVID-19 mask requirement at this time.
Testing guidance for spring break travel
Students, faculty and staff are encouraged to get a COVID-19 test before and after travel for spring break, Feb. 26 – Mar. 6. Testing is available through the Community Sampling and Tracking Program.
Rapid antigen tests are being made available to students residing in campus housing. Antigen test kits are also now much more widely available at community retail sites and through federal programs. If you test positive, report outside test results here and follow guidance on how to complete your isolation period. Be sure to know and follow COVID-19 testing requirements for your travel destination(s). Find more information here.
Booster data on COVID-19 dashboard
According to available booster data on the COVID-19 dashboard, a majority of students, faculty and staff at the University of Michigan have been verified as up to date on their COVID-19 vaccinations. As of Feb. 18, 98 percent of students and 92 percent of employees have been verified as completing their primary vaccination series while 65 percent of students and 66 percent of employees have been verified as having received their COVID-19 booster. An additional 17 percent of students and 12 percent of employees have submitted completed booster documentation that is still in the process of being verified by the university.

Top question this week
Am I required to get weekly testing?
Students and employees who are not up to date on COVID-19 vaccinations, including those who have an approved exemption (primary series or for the booster) or postponement, are required to participate in weekly COVID-19 testing.
