Why are students in Michigan Housing in fall 2023 required to submit proof of childhood immunizations?

Vaccination requirements and recommendations follow the guidelines set forth by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). This is also in line with Big Ten and peer institutions and the state of Michigan’s requirements for K-12 students. Requiring immunizations is strongly endorsed by the American College Health Association, among other organizations. The majority of students enrolling at the University of Michigan likely already meet these requirements. Understanding who is vaccinated and who is not allows the university to better respond to an outbreak of exposure to one of these diseases.
